Today was a fun day! I got a chance to wear a cute new summer dress I bought and I got to spend time with people I love! Today was the first of several bridal showers for my future sister-in-law! What a fun time being able to celebrate with her and family! Great food, great people, great gifts :) There was an adorable sunflower theme that will carry over to the wedding and I am just so glad that I am a part of this wonderful time in my brother and future sister’s life and I am so happy to see two people as much in love as they are!
But today also got me thinking about how I sometimes let myself fall into this funk of “everyone else is dating, everyone else is closer to marriage than me, everyone else, everyone else, everyone else.” Do you see a theme here? Because I sure do.
I was waaay too consistent at comparing myself and my life to others. Why should I expect my life to be exactly like someone else’s. And why should I think that me being single is somehow a bad thing? It’s not a bad thing. And it has taken me a while to reach the place where I am content with the way things are right now and not wishing things were different. (Though I do have my occasional days where I lose sight of that. Don’t we all?)
The point is, we were not designed to all be in the same place at the same time in our lives. And God gives us seasons for a reason. Seasons of joy, seasons of pain, seasons of love. But no matter what the season, they all have one very similar intention: to grow or shape us in some way. And what’s even cooler, whatever season you’re in now, God is using it to prepare you for the next season. There is a time for everything.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”
And I no longer find sadness when I think about my relationship status. I find excitement! Because I know that God is not only preparing me for my future spouse, but He is also preparing my future spouse for me. And when we are both ready and in the same place together, we will be brought together in the most amazing way. Because God designed it! I was reminded of this just days ago when a friend gave me the most beautiful encouragement, “Put your heart in God’s hands and it’s incredible where He will take you!”
And I just want to leave you with a prayer of sorts. This is a little letter written in the form of our Father speaking to us that was given to me this earlier this year and it’s been close to my heart ever since.
GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR MATE
Everyone longs to give themselves to someone-to have a deep soul relationship with another, to be loved thoroughly and exclusively. But God says to the Christian, no–not until you are satisfied and fulfilled and content with being in love with me alone…I love you, my child, and until you discover that only in me is your satisfaction to be found, until you are united with me-exclusive of anyone or anything else, exclusive of any other desire or longing-you will not be capable of the perfect relationship with another. Stop wishing, stop planning, stop dreaming and allow me to give you the most thrilling plan existing-one that you cannot imagine. I want you to have the best. Please, allow me to bring it to you. You just keep watching me, expecting the greatest things. Keep experiencing the satisfaction of knowing that I AM. Keep learning and listening to the things I tell you. You must wait!
Don’t be anxious. Don’t worry. Don’t look at what I’ve given others. Don’t look at the things you think you want. Just keep watching me, or you’ll miss what I have to offer you and want you to have.
Then when you are ready, I’ll surprise you with love far more wonderful than any could ever imagine. You see, until you are ready, and the one I have for you is ready…I am working right now to have both of you ready at the same time…until you both are ready and satisfied exclusively with me, and the life I have prepared for you, you won’t be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with me…and this is perfect love!
Dear one, I want you to have this most perfect love. I want you to see in the flesh a picture of the relationship you can have with me. I want you to enjoy materially and concretely the everlasting union and beauty and perfection and love that I offer you with myself. Know that I love you utterly. Believe and be satisfied.
